I have over 14 years of experience in user experience and user interface design. I have supported high-profile IT modernization projects for the General Services Administration (GSA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Cancer Institute (NCI) in a multitude of roles. I am an expert in user experience design, user interface design, user research, and design thinking. Beyond understanding how users could best interact with a system, I also have extensive experience leveraging Agile/SAFe/Lean UX practices, driving teams to consider user experience at each step of the product development lifecycle. I have a Master of Science in Interaction Design and Information Architecture from the University of Baltimore. I decided to pursue this degree in order to make me a more well-rounded designer.
Guidehouse (August 2022 - Present)
General Services Administration (GSA) Fleet (August 2022 - July 2024)
I support the enterprise-level government fleet management solution, General Services Administration (GSA) Fleet, as a UI/UX Designer. I support the migration and modernization of 19 disparate legacy fleet systems to a re-engineered and reorganized SaaS. To date, I've redesigned several of the legacy applications, improving the user experience and reducing inefficiencies. Redesign includes the use and updates to the GSA Fleet design system (based on the US Web Design System (USWDS)), employment of best practices, 508 compliance, and user research. I've supported GSA as a Business Analyst, distilled requirements into user stories and acceptance criteria, prioritized backlog stories for MVP, and led Agile scrum ceremonies while performing my UX/UI design duties.
Department of Energy (DOE) – Lifecycle Dashboard 508 Compliance – Accessibility Lead/UX Designer (March 2024 - May 2024)
The Department of Energy requested an accessibility plan to make their Tableau lifecycle dashboard 508 compliant. With no access to the internal tool, demos were provided to demonstrate functionality of the dashboard. I provided an approach to auditing and assessing the compliance of the dashboard with tools such as Google Lighthouse and Accessible Name & Description Inspector (ANDI), and mitigation techniques. I supplied a checklist for compliance tailored to the dashboard contents and based on criteria set forth by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) compliance level AA with additional newer criteria in versions 2.1 and 2.2 to strive for.
Publicis Sapient (June 2010 – August 2022)
National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health (June 2010 – August 2022)
I ended my tenure at Publicis Sapient as a Design Manager at Publicis Sapient contracting for the National Cancer Institute. I managed the design team on the Cancer.gov redesign and design system projects. I've supported the National Cancer Institute in website restructure and redesign, Content Management System (CMS) migration, and creative direction through user research, prototyping, usability testing and implementation. My most notable accomplishment was the redesign of Cancer.gov which received an Adobe Government Creativity Award in 2015.
I supported Publicis Sapient proposals via a hackathon which included collaborating with information architects and developers to produce a minimum viable product in the span of a few hours. I developed a UI kit for the team in preparation for the hackathon. Additionally, I have written, created graphics, and conducted heuristic website evaluations for proposals, two of which were awarded contracts.
